Tin plating is carried out by immersing the component in a tin-based electrolyte solution and applying a controlled electric current. This results in the uniform deposition of a tin layer across the entire surface of the component.

For zinc-alloy substrates such as brass, a copper or nickel undercoat is recommended before tin plating to prevent zinc migration into the tin layer. This ensures long-term stability, improved solderability, and a higher-quality finish.
